Approach & Values

Amanda Colón is the founder of Amethyst Affinity. She is extremely passionate about the subject matter that she presents in trainings. Amanda offers a thorough, concise, and hands-on approach to deliver the material. Her goal is to serve as a catalyst for positive change in her community and abroad.

Education

Amanda Colón earned her Master’s Degree in Human Services and Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. She has over thirty-five years of experience in education as a Program Manager, Director, and Outreach Professional, with a focus on diversity and equity education.

Experience

Throughout her career in youth education, Amanda has created a variety of student groups and school-wide diversity training opportunities to motivate and inspire students with social, economic and educational barriers.

As a Culture Coordinator at The People’s Academy school, Amanda initiated a program of behavioral and diversity intervention and training.

Amanda has experience working in both rural and urban communities with students, families, and community members designing and facilitating educational, social-emotional, and outreaching programs.

During her work with youth who have a mismatch between learning style and the learning system, Amanda has worked in public and private schools to help close the learning gap for students who struggle with traditional learning environments. While employed at the  Brooklyn youth organization (Police Athletic League in New York City) she was awarded a citation from the Brooklyn Borough President for her work in the community, and a Certificate of Appreciation for strengthening relationships between the community and area law enforcement.

While living and working in New York City in youth programs, she was trained in facilitation by organizations like the Anti-Defamation League, Girls Incorporated, and Wise Guys.

Most recently Amanda was appointed a seat on the Vermont Governor’s Workforce Equity and Diversity Council.
